Video of Naomi Klein on the Colbert Report

-"whole societies also go into a state of shock when their is a crises. when there is a terrorist attack or a huge natural disaster, or a huge economic crisis. something happens where people don't know whats going on and they'll do what people in authority tell them to do"- Naomi Klein

when she said this all could think about was the katrina disaster and how all these people where waiting outside the dome for the government to come help them because that was they were told the government was going to do......the government came late these people here with out food with out water.... how did the government expect these people to survive in such conditions....i bet if it was president bush who was in that circumstance they wouldve gotten him out of there within less than an hour of the cirisis happening. many older people who needed oxygen and medications died because there werent gettin what they needed. what wouldve happend if the government aid never showed? this is some really serious situatons. TBC...

  1. Sweet! I think when your writing a blog, you should treat it with the same respect (grammer) as with an essay. Good stuff tho, do you think Klein is hot too?

  3. if u remember though the people, majority of them, that were in new orleans wen katrina hit were there because they chose to stay there...there were givin a full warning and enough time to leave....peoples and families were tryna walk across th bridge, believe, to the next state after the disaster well y couldnt they do that b4 the storm...they wanted to say because they had no way to but walkin seemed very efficient once they were in a state of "panic" or "shock"...so the aftermath of katrina cannot b blamed solely on the governtment because the PEOPLE did nothing to help themselves

  4. Tracy, that's a really interesting connection. I'm wondering, though, if the victims of Katrina really fall into the category of people mistakenly putting faith in government. Shouldn't we expect government to help out in emerengies like this one?

  5. -PROF T: THATS TRUE..I GUESS IN A WAY ITS ONE OF THOSE TIMES THAT YOU EXPECT THINGS TO GO A CERTAIN WAY OR CERTAIN ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN AND THEN IT DOENT GO THE WAY IT WAS IMAGINED...HOW KNEW THAT GOVERNMENT WOULD TAKE SO LONG TO COME?...SO YES YOU ARE RIGHT WE DO EXPECET OUR GOVERNMENT TO HLEP OTU IN EMERGENCIES LIKE THIS ONE BUT AS SHOWEN WE NEVER KNOW WAT TO REALLY ECPECT....

-JASPER: HOW MUCH WAS ENOUGH TIME? CAUSE IF THEY WERE TOLD A WEEK OR MORE ABOUT IT IM PRETTY SURE MORE PEOPLE WOULDVE TAKEN IT SERIOUS AND LEFT....BUT IF U TOLD ME SOMTHING LIKE THAT A DAY B4 IT HAPPENS HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TAKE THINGS SERIOUS PIK UP AND LEAVE WITH MY FAMILY? ITS NOT THAT EASY...EVEN THOUGH YES SOMTHING LIKE THAT IS REALLY SERIOUS BUT IF THE GOVERNMENT DIDNT MAKE ENOUGH EFFORT TO BASICALLY KICK US OUT THEN I WOULDNT THINK LIKE OMG IM GOING TO DIE EITHER (HOPE THAT MADE SENCE I KINDA GOT DISTRACTED WHILE WRITING THIS...THINKING ABOUT CHOCLOATE CAKE N STUFF LOL)

  6. Jasper, as the film stated, most of the people who stayed didn't have transportation to get out.
Also, people tried to cross the bridge and were met with guns, so that has to be taken into account.

  7. @tracy..it cake made cake sense cake but people did have enough time they were told well in advance about the hurricane and their response was "well we survived betsy so we can survive this one"...and stubborness is what got them in the position and situation that they ended up in

@prof t..your right they didnt have transportation but the same people that didnt have transportation found a way to WALK to the dome wen the storm hit or WALK to the place where the busses were suppose to picc people up...and once again u r right they were met at gunpoint on the other side of the bridge but but that was AFTER katrina not before so im sure if they wouldve tried to make the same advancements BEFORE katrina they wouldve have been welcomed with open arrms...maybe even as tourist traveling in large groups
